"Vanished" gives the reader the perspective from a Major General of the Army's Medical Department, of a possible end times scenario. He survived many pandemics including the Duck Flu, Monkeypox, RSV, Covid-19, and a new one that is a variation of SARSCoV-12. The task force he was a member were facing a new pandemic unless they got control of it before it spread, so that means lockdowns. The island of Crete was in a quarantine and then they found new cases inland in Italy, where he recruited his adult daughter to go with his team as an interpreter. She went with but then when the heat was unbearable she convinced her father, Major General to visit a nearby cave to cool down. Well, wouldn't you know an earthquake occurred and they were trapped for days, eventually rescued. His daughter was severely injured with several broken ribs and internal bleeding. I couldn't help but think about an acquaintance I had briefly met in the Army on active duty, what his reaction would have been in that situation. Then when they finally were rescued, found out that the quarantine was lifted and it had spread throughout the world, killing 1,043,666 people within six months.
As things in the world got worse, signs of the biblical end times were evident. The Major General was faced with his own differences of his belief in God and had discussions with fellow officers and family. He learned about the Rapture but wasn't certain it would be real, saying "he would head to the nearest church if that happened". So in the end if you were a lukewarm Christian without real conviction, you would be left behind. There was also suspicious installations his niece had discovered at their electrical substation nearby his home that didn't add up. He found it was radioactive and a suspected nuclear bomb. No one would believe him. Yet he tried to warn people. So, as he struggled with his faith, his ex-wife and daughter were strong believers. His niece was pregnant and the description of her giving birth brought back memories of my own difficult pregnancies bringing tears of understanding.
In the unbelievable end, he faced the reality when all the believers and children were Raptured into God's Kingdom in Heaven. He was devastated and then was willing to open his heart to the Bible and what to look ahead to with his niece who also was lukewarm, to what the future Tribulation would bring.
