The series is written as apocalyptic fiction written that follows events of the Bible, by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. The story is built on what could happen in the world when the prophesy of the ending of the world and Jesus' return. The details of the lives of ordinary people develops into an action packed series.
Left Behind
The series begins with The Rapture of God’s Remnant of true believers, disappearing in the blink of an eye from the face of the earth. As described in the Book of Revelation, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet with the Lord in the air." This is where the story begins and all of God's remnant disappeared from earth, leaving behind family, friends, everything they owned. There was total chaos on the earth and the aftermath revealed those who were left behind.
Tribulation Force
The story of Ray Steele's family starts a church where his family attended at New Hope Village Church, located in the suburbs of Chicago. Ray's wife was in the remnant and disappeared leaving her clothes, jewelry right where she sat. They then meet from time to time and become immersed in study of prophecies contained in the Bible. Their study reveals that the Antichrist will establish control of the Earth, and the Tribulation period lasting seven years will start after his covenant with Israel. Jesus Christ's second coming will fall on the end of the Tribulation.
Nicolate
Within the series, Nicolate Carpathia is the Antichrist, and leader of the Global Community (GC), a world government which he ultimately marshals against the followers of Jesus Christ. As a young child, Carpathia shows remarkable intelligence and athletic ability, and also proves to be extraordinarily manipulative, able to bend others to his will with relative ease. In the chaos following the Rapture, Carpathia is appointed United Nations Secretary-General. From this office, he converts the U.N. into the Global Community, appointing himself as that government's Supreme Potentate. Reference to a letter to the Ephesians in Revelation 2:6 "You have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitians, which I also hate." Also, footnoted in NIV "Nicolaitans, followers of Nicolas according to early church Fathers. There were apparently a sect that advocated license in matters of Christian conduct, including free love, though some understand from the meaning of the name (conquering of the people).
Soul Harvest
As the world hurtles toward the Trumpet Judgements and the great soul harvest prophesied in Scriptures, Rayford and Buck begin searching for their loved ones from different corners of the earth. The world is forced to take sides.
Apollyon
The Beast is unleashed. The Tribulation Force travels to Israel for the Meeting of Witnesses as further judgments are released upon the world. Satan falls from heaven and opens the bottomless pit, releasing Apollyon and his plague of locusts that torture the unsaved. As described in Revelations 9:7-12 "They had breastplates as breastplate of iron, and the sold of their wing was like thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails and stings like scorpions, and in their tail they had power to torment people for five months. They had as king over them, they angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek, Apollyon."
Assassins
Taking place at the halfway point of the seven-year Tribulation, the story follows the Tribulation Force as they attempt to expose and assassinate the Antichrist, Global Community leader Nicolae Carpathia. Rayford Steele, struggling with grief and rage, plans to travel to Jerusalem and eliminate Nicolae Carpathia. Occurring between months 38 and 42 of the Tribulation, this was part of the fulfillment of four major prophetic murders foretold in Scripture. Earthquakes, staggering death counts, and a supernatural horde of 200 million demonic horsemen decimate the planet. Buck Williams, son-in-law to Ray, continues to run his underground cyberspace publication, The Truth, to spread the Word of God.
The Indwelling
It is 42 months since the Tribulation. The members of the Tribulation Force -just three in the safe house and the rest scattered about the globe-force their most dangerous challenges. Some are toiling inside the lair of the evil one, Nicolate, always at risk of being discovered. It’s the midpoint of the seven-year Tribulation. Time and eternity seem suspended, and the destiny of mankind hangs in the balance. In fact, it was Chaim Rosenzweig who stabbed Nicolae through the back of the head with a knife that he created- the thinnest, sharpest knife ever. As the world mourns the death of their leader and a funeral service is set for three days later after the assassination, the statue of Nicolae is erected. Millions gather to view Carpathia's body, encased by bulletproof glass. Suddenly, the statue comes to life in the midst of black billowing smoke and speaks, demanding worship. The Antichrist speaks to the people of the world, declaring that if anyone is able to doubt that he is God after seeing this, and if there are still people who think that they have already been enduring Tribulation, then they should prepare for the Great Tribulation.[4]
The Mark
His Excellency Global Community Potentate Nicolae Carpathia has been resurrected and indwelt by Satan himself. He also demands that the people of the Global Community (GC) worship him. Statues of himself are erected for worship. The Antichrist declares that every single person on earth must receive his mark of loyalty and worship his image or lose their head to the loyalty enforcement facilitator. Terror comes to Christians in Greece as they are among the first to receive the death penalty for refusing the mark. As it is written Revelation 13:16-17 "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name... His number is 666."
The Desecration
Nicolae Carpathia is returning to Jerusalem to claim as what he sees as his own, the temple there and help begin the loyalty mark program. Nicolae stages a gruesome and evil desecration of the temple. As millions take the Mark of the Beast, the first Bowl Judgment rains down as foul and loathsome sores appear on the bodies of all who have taken the mark, including Nicolae's inner circle. Carpathia then kills a staff member for failing to take Tsion Ben-Judah off the air when Tsion was able to appear on the Global Community television when the Tribulation Force was able to hijack the network. As it is written, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 "Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come, until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God."
The Remnant
The Great Tribulation unfolds, with one million believers gathered in Petra under the protection of God as Global Community Supreme Potentate and Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia continues to attack them and Armageddon approaches. Carpathia is ecstatic that he is about to attack the believers with massive amounts of conventional ordnance, a barrage that no one could survive without a miracle, yet all the believers do, not even feeling the flames that engulf their bodies. A final missile hits, opening a spring that drenches the fire. Afterwards, people talking to each other hear each other in their own language. The Tribulation Force is forced to look for a new place. They manage to leave the now compromised safe house and the Chicago, Illinois, area just in time before Antichrist orders what remains of Chicago to be obliterated by a nuclear blast. The main Trib. Force members find a new safe house with George Sebastian in San Diego, California. Meanwhile, over the next two and a half years, the next two Bowl Judgments hit: the world's freshwater supply is turned into blood and the sun scorches with fiery heat. The three angels of Revelation 15 begin appearing all around the world, spreading their messages. As it is written, Revelation 16:-4..-8 "The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and spring of water, and they became blood. The forth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was given power to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God." Rayford moves back and forth between San Diego and Petra, while Tsion stays at Petra to teach the Jewish remnant there.
Armageddon
It is the beginning of the final year of the Tribulation, and New Babylon is covered in thick darkness with the fifth Bowl Judgment. Meanwhile, Global Community troops are canvassing the area of the San Diego underground safehouse in which the members of the Tribulation Force are hiding out. Chloe Williams goes out to investigate one of their vehicles, but is soon pursued, captured, and brought into custody where she is interrogated for any knowledge she has concerning the Tribulation Force. With divine help, Chloe refuses to give them any information, even when she gets drugged and transported to an Illinois holding facility where she is injected with truth serum. The Tribulation Force try to find out where she was being taken, but are unable to rescue her before she is publicly executed. At the final week of the Tribulation, God causes the Euphrates River to dry up, allowing the armies from the east to pass over and gather at the Jezreel Valley, fulfilling the sixth Bowl Judgment. The battle finally commences on the day of the Lord's coming, with the Jews in Jerusalem dealing with Global Community forces storming the city and the people of Petra dealing with the vast sea of military forces surrounding the location.
Glorious Appearing
The Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia has assembled the armies of the world in the Valley of Megiddo for what he believes will be his ultimate triumph of the ages. With a victory here, he would ascend to the throne of God. The Tribulation Force has migrated to the Middle East, most ensconced at Petra with the Jewish Remnant, now more than a million strong. Petra is surrounded by the Unity Army, poised to destroy all that is left of God's people and usher in Carpathia's new world order. Then Satan temporarily leaves Carpathia's body and reminds the now trembling, feeble shell of Nicolae Carpathia that he is merely a shell for him before indwelling him once again. Suddenly, the whole world is covered in a blinding light as the entire earth sees Jesus Christ coming in power and glory out of Heaven with the Armies and Raptured Saints of Heaven. As Jesus speaks, the entire third of the Global Community forces and Carpathia loyalists at Petra are slain with Nicolae and Leon fleeing to Bozrah. The Remnant at Petra are suddenly blessed with the ability to run at superhuman speeds, allowing them to arrive at Bozrah right before Jesus obliterates all the Global Community forces there and temporarily descends to the fields of Bozrah and stains his robe with blood, fulfilling the Prophecy of Isaiah 63:1-6 of Jesus trampling the enemies of God.
The Rising
Before they were left behind, the story of what happened to bring about the intersect of Nicolate Carpathia and Ray Steel's lives. The good and evil of the beginning of the end. Who began the genetic engineering with evil and a an unaware mother to give birth to the Antichrist. While Ray was a young pilot who's life would bring God's plan for him to be part of a Tribulation Force to combat it. His family was a core part of the story who ran the underground believers community who organized and supplied their needs around the world.
